Achievements

  • I founded and established the first dental department in St. Joseph Hospital, Providence, Rhode Island. I was that facility's Dental Director from 1995 to 2000. The Dental Center boasts of its six operatories, serving a current patient base of 4,000 patients.
  • I am affiliated with Providence Smiles, a dental-sealant program composed of dentists and hygienists providing preventive dental sealants to the Providence Public School System.
  • I served as Clinical Preceptor to Tufts University dental students for four years.

Dr. Alvarez-Pettengill was very instrumental in developing all policies for sterilization methods in a hospital-based dental center, a standard required not only by OSHA and the Department of Health, but also by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organizations (JCAHO).
